Hi, my name is Mariel Tavakoli.
Freelance Writer & Editor. ESL Teacher.
Dedicated to All Things Cultural Exchange.

This site originally started as a blog to keep family and friends informed of my time teaching English in Znojmo, Czech Republic from September 2013- June 2014 via the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and to provide some insight into the adventures, challenges, and experiences of a young American living abroad. Almost 4 years later, I have found that I love writing and sharing my own travel experiences.
Život
I first became intrigued by the Czech language as a study abroad student in Prague and it has sparked my love of languages ever since. The word for život (life) in Czech and its starting letter of ž serve as a reminder to me of the amazing lessons I have learned while traveling.
Current Projects
I am currently a student at the University of Oxford where I study Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition within the Department of Education. My research focuses on international secondary school students’ experiences writing statements of purpose for applications to undergraduate programs in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Upcoming Travels
Thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout my adventures and to my friends, family, and life mentors for their support throughout all of life’s travels. The content of this website was created by me and does not reflect the position of the U.S. Government or the Fulbright Program.
